오는 11월 미국 대선의 양당 후보를 사실상 확정지을 ‘슈퍼화요일’ 경선이 5일(현지시간) 15개주와 미국령 사모아에서 실시된다. 민주당과 공화당 몫의 대의원 30% 이상이 결정되는 슈퍼화요일은 미 대선 경선의 최대 승부처로 꼽히지만, 승자는 이미 나와 있다. 4년 만에 맞붙을 가능성이 확실시되는 조 바이든 대통령과 도널드 트럼프 전 대통령은 이날을 기점으로 본선 체제에 돌입할 것으로 예상된다.

트럼프 전 대통령은 4일 연방대법원의 대선 출마 자격 유지 결정으로 재선 도전을 둘러싼 법적 장애물이 해소되면서 더욱 탄력을 받게 됐다. 최근 트럼프 전 대통령과의 가상 양자 대결에서 열세를 보이고 있는 바이든 대통령은 지지층 이반 차단과 고령리스크 우려 불식이 과제다.
공화당 대선 후보로 지명되려면 전체 대의원(2429명)의 과반인 1215명을 확보해야 한다. 슈퍼화요일에 걸려 있는 대의원은 전체의 약 35%인 865명(사모아 9명 제외)이다. 전국 단위 여론조사에서 80%에 육박하는 지지율을 기록하는 트럼프 전 대통령이 슈퍼화요일에 대의원 대부분을 ‘싹쓸이’할 것이라는 관측이 나온다.

델이 몰고 온 훈풍에 AI 반도체·서버 기업들의 주가도 덩달아 크게 올랐다. 엔비디아 주가는 전장보다 4.0% 오른 822.79달러에 마감했으며, 종가 기준으로 이 회사의 시총은 2조569억7500만달러(약 2748조원)를 기록했다. 엔비디아 시총은 지난 23일 장중 2조달러를 넘어섰다가 종가 기준으로 내려간 바 있는데, 이후 일주일 만에 종가 기준 최초로 2조달러를 돌파했다. 시총 순위는 마이크로소프트와 애플에 이어 3위다.
엔비디아 칩으로 서버를 만드는 또 다른 기업 슈퍼마이크로 컴퓨터의 주가도 이날 4.5% 상승했다. AI 랠리를 타고 있는 다른 반도체 기업 브로드컴과 마벨 테크놀로지도 각각 7.6%, 8.3% 올랐다. 엔비디아의 경쟁사인 AMD 주가도 5.3% 상승했다.
